Hiring In-House

Small budget means inexperienced staff who require more effort and time to train and manage.

Let’s be honest — the usual support options just aren’t cutting it.

It’s great to meet you! I’m Katie.

My passion is supporting impact-driven nonprofit organizations by helping them effectively communicate their mission.

Growing up with a journalist as a parent, I quickly learned about the power and art of storytelling. Studying both Anthropology and Nonprofit Studies at George Mason University, I developed a deep understanding of the need for cultural context in both communication and philanthropy. This understanding became the foundation of my career in the nonprofit sector.

I have ten years of experience working with charitable organizations in the areas of education, international development, and human rights. My expertise in strategic fundraising and storytelling has been instrumental in strengthening organizations, amplifying the voices of those served, and creating lasting change in the community.

I founded Versed Nonprofit Consulting to help small and growing nonprofit organizations fundraise strategically and communicate effectively because I know the challenges of hiring in the sector first-hand. Through Versed, I am leveraging my skills and experience through a fractional leadership model that is tailored specifically to small nonprofit organizations accomplishing powerful work in the community.

“I've worked with Katie for nearly a decade now, and her reliability, trustworthiness, passion, and kindness make her an incredible asset to nonprofits. Katie has a deep understanding of how to fuel the mission of an organization by communicating effectively about how supporting the work of an organization will contribute to transformative outcomes. As the director of an organization, I know I can't do it all myself, and I rely on Katie's expertise in communications and development to further our mission. ”

  • Small organizations typically have limited budgets for staffing, which means they hire someone junior with little fundraising strategy or experience. That person usually spends a lot of time and energy on things that are not moving the organization forward. Instead, with the same budget, you can hire an expert with over 10 years of experience and a passion for implementation and getting it done. Clients love this solution to help them grow strategically.

An added benefit is that I require less supervision, meaning less stress for the ED! Bonus!

  • My monthly service packages range from $2,500 - $5,000 per month. Shorter-term projects will be considered case-by-case and priced according to their complexity.

  • Each organization is unique, and your communications strategy should be unique. After working with small-shop organizations for years, I've done just about everything - from social media and blog content to email marketing to grant writing.

I start each engagement with a strategic planning process to develop a clear plan with goals and activities to move your fundraising and engagement forward. Then, I do the work!

Implementation means writing appeals, managing data, scheduling social posts, and tracking metrics. I help you determine which activities are a priority and then do them!

  • If a fundraiser or consultant offers guaranteed results, RUN. That is probably a sign they are doing something unethical. Success takes time and consistency. Your results depend on where you are starting and what your priorities are.

  • Here's a novel approach - I don't track hours! That's right - I focus on deliverables and outcomes. My experience helps me be efficient in my work, and I only take on the number of clients I can assist based on my time and capacity.
